LA Preview: The 2017 Jeep Compass goes a new direction and gets overhauled

After a droned-out 10-year production run, the 2017 Jeep Compass receives the makeover it desperately needed

What’s going on?

At the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass was unveiled. Unlike previous updates to the previous model, which surpassed 10 years, the 2017 version is actually a completely new car.

So the new 2017 Jeep Compass is actually new. What’s new about it?

It starts with a much-needed exterior design that pretty much mimics his larger middle brother, the Cherokee, but with much better touches. For example, Compass uses a Grand Cherokee-style radiator grill and headlights, rather than a weird setup on a standard Cherokee.

The 2017 Jeep Compass also has a new two-tone paint theme, implying that Cherokee and Renegade have somehow teamed up to give birth to Compass.

The interior is also undergoing much-needed overhaul thanks to a new design with a tangible increase in the quality of building materials and functional forms of design.

Ok, so what powers it?

If you were to think that the Fiat Four Gangster Mill is a mill, you would be right. Worldwide, up to five powertrains can be selected at Jeep Compass 2017, depending on where in the world you live. In America, the only engine option will be the Fiat-supplied 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 four, delivering up to 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of bend.

Fortunately for automotive liking, a six-speed manual is optional for two-wheel-drive models. The four-wheel-drive automatic compass gets a class-leading nine-speed automatic ZF source, while the base two-wheel drive gets the usual Aisin six-speed auto.

Will it be any good?

Too early to speak. But we assume that this will ruin the appetites of those who already love the Subaru Forester and possibly even the Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen Alltrack. Compass 2017 promises not to be shy and complete with the patented Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low systems as standard.
